Former Heavyweight Boxing Champion Joins the WazeesBy staff writer The Wazee Football Club, last Sunday at the General Ttyre Sports grounds along Njiro road, saw the maiden appearance of none other than the former national heavyweight boxing champion in the form of Samson Laizer. The heavy set Samson began warming up by running four laps around the pitch before joining the other Wazees. Once inside the pitch, Samson realized that football was actually quite different from boxing because it entailed using all parts of your body in controlling, heading and kicking the ball towards the opponents goal. He was soon seen falling down on the pitch in a heavyweight fashion. These were remarkable falls. He however managed to stop dangerous moves by the likes of Wazee Abebe and Mohamed Babu, the Regional Commissioner. Also Mzee Saria, the District Commissioner could not make serious moves against him due to Samson's generous body. Samson, however soon retired to man the goal. He made some dramatic saves between the posts. However, he could not stop two goals which sailed between his legs. One major save saw him diving full length to stop a dangerous shot near the goal post. It took him sometime before he could raise his body from the pitch. He has promised to improve on his performance come this Sunday. Other notable appearances included those of Mzee Chiduo, the Zonal National Microfinance Chief in Arusha, Mzee Prof Hirji, Mzee Sanda and Mzee Mlay, the businessman. Mzee Mikasi and Mzee Money of the gemstones fame also showed their prowess in the pitch. At half time the Chief Executive of General Tyre, Mzee Deven Lohani accompanied by his dynamic Marketing Chief Kati Kerenge, handed over the first Wazee IDs to Mzee Babu and Mmzee Saria. All Wazees will now have permanent IDs. At the end of the game the score stood at 3-1, the winning team having benefitted from the tight wall defence manned by Mzee Malulu, who frustrated all moves by the likes of Mzee Mmpeli Nsekela of the MultiChoice fame. Soon after, the Wazees enjoyed packets of cold low fat milk offered by Mzee Ngassa of the Arusha Diary fame. These were immediately followed by mouthfuls of Windhoek beer provided by Mzee Richard Mazula who flew all the way from Kigali, Rwanda to join the Wazees. The Wazees have now taken serious moves to improve their football skills. Multichoine, thanks to Mzee Nsekela, has organized a big screen show of the English FA match between Leeds and Liverpool on Saturday, 30 August 2003. The screening, which will be accompanied by a cocktail and some bites will take place at the nearby La Fiesta Club. Everybody is waiting to see how the Wazees will implement what they will have seen on the screen the next Sunday.
