Mysterious deaths reported in two local hotels

By Happy Lazaro and Nyamanoko Bwire.

Arusha town has witnessed two mysterious deaths of people whose bodies were discovered in their respective rooms at different hotels in the municipality.

An Egyptian citizen, Yasser Sayeed (40) died in his hotel room at the Hotel Equator on the 17th/18th night this month.

Sayeed was in Arusha attending a special workshop organized by National Radiation Commission at the Technical Collage of Arusha (TCA).

Regional Police Commander (RPC), James Kombe, said the deceased’s body was discovered after the hotel servants became suspicion following prolonged quietness, without the room occupant waking up.

Even various attempts to knock at the door proved futile , thus prompting the hotel Management to open the locked room using spare keys.

The Egyptian was found dead, with some anti -biotic drugs placed beside his body and when the Police checked the room later on, more drugs (pain killers) were also found which made the authorities suspect that, the deceased could have been sick.

In a different incident, a lady identified as Grace Shemweta (32) a resident of Mererani, died at the Town Guest House located at the town centre, in the night before August 19.

Grace, who was occupying room number 7 at the Guest house , had two children with her namely Esther Rangeni (7) and George Rangeni (9).

It was the children who raised alarm when they woke up that Tuesday morning, only to discover that their mother wasn’t going to wake up.

Two bottles of Diazenol drug, were found besides the deceased’s bed but it is still not known whether the lady poisoned herself with the drug.

By the time we went to press, the two children were still at the Police Station waiting for their father, Mr. Rangeni who is a gemstone dealer based in Mbeya region.

Both dead bodies were taken to the Mount Meru Hospital mortuary for autopsy.
