WVT charity walk reaches target

Last Saturday’s Arusha charity walk held in Arusha and organized by World Vision Tanzania (WVT) in aid of HIV-AIDS orphans in Kagera region raised close to Tsh.40 million.

Led by the Minister of Water and Livestock Development, Edward Lowassa, the charity walk started at the Mwenge roundabout junction in Kaloleni, passed through Swahili street, Uhuru road, onto Old Moshi road and up Church road ending at the Gymkhana golf course.

Also showing their solidarity in the effort, was the Arusha Regional Commissioner (RC), Mohammed Babu, the WVT National Director, George Mkanza, the District Commissioner, Fulgence Saria and the World Vision Board Chairman, Hellen Kijo Bisimba.

Main contributors in the charity walk included, Stanbic Bank of Arusha, which donated a cheque of Tsh.1 million, Tanzania National Parks (TANAPA) Tsh.500,000, ASAT Communication Tsh.500,000, Pride-Tanzania Tsh.500,000, CRDB Bank Tsh.500,000, AUWSA Tsh.500,000 and AICC Tsh.300,000.

Others were AAR Medical Services Tsh.300,000, Ilboru Lodge Tsh.200,000 and about 16 companies of Arusha which contributed a total of Tsh.12,091,500 between them.

World Vision members of staff themselves, managed to raise a total of Tsh.9.6 million between them, the guest of honour Lowassa, donated Tsh.500,000, and the Regional Commissioner Tsh.400,000.

Through its RUSHWA Project, World Vision takes care of more than 2,000 children of Muleba district in Kagera lake zone region of Tanzania.

The children were all orphaned after their parents died o f HIV-AIDS related diseases, when the epidemic took its toll in the district.

Kagera is the first region in Tanzania to face the wrath of the incurable disease which was first diagnosed in Tanzania in 1983.

The World Vision Tanzania has over 80 projects, serving more than three million people in 32 districts of Tanzania the projects range from education, water, community development to health and sanitation.

Last week’s charity walk was targeted to raise Tsh.40 million for the Rushwa Project . The effort managed to raise Tsh.39,421,500.
