It was alright
to shift the town cemetery to Njiro in order to create more space but
the project was rushed thus not allowing adequate preparations.
The road to the new graveyard is
almost impassable during rainy season and the area is yet to have a
fence surrounding it as is normally proper for cemeteries.
It was however a good idea for the
council to build a special changing room for religious leaders to use
while conducting burial masses. |

The council
seems to have forgotten, or maybe ignored one crucial factor when
shifting the town cemetery to Njiro.
This factor is the road. No vehicle
can reach the area when it rains thus making burial activities to be
almost seasonal.
Mind you, more people are now living
in Njiro so the issue of good road is not just for the cemetery and
while at that, how about a Police station and bus terminal as well? |

|
We fear that,
soon the graves at the new Njiro cemetery will start being exhumed and
valuable items stolen from the dead bodies due to inadequate security
in the area.
The graveyard has also no clearly
indicated boundaries. What about parking space for vehicles? |

The area is
the most arid one in Arusha municipality. The council needs to plant
some trees there, improve the road and erect a fence around the
cemetery.
One important thing, there should
also be a law stating that, each grave must have moderate sized tomb
stones not those large ones that take up much space. |
