Dumped baby disappears from garbage heap"Mother held in court in connection with the case"by Happy Lazaro An 18-year-old woman has appeared in court for allegedly dumping her one month old baby in a garbage heap. Reading the charges in court, before the Resident Magistrate, Amir Msumi, the public prosecutor, Inspector Alute Makhita said the incident occurred in May this year. The accused, Asia Adolf, a resident of Mbauda JR is reported to have given birth to the baby and after four weeks she threw it into a garbage dump in Burka area. The accused allegedly committed the crime around 4.00 p.m. She was later on arrested and taken to the Central Police Station. More surprising however, is the fact that after being dumped, the baby disappeared without much of a trace, thus creating a mystery on top of the criminal case. Having lacked sureties to bail her out, the accused, who has so far denied the charges, has been taken back into court custody until the 4th of August 2003. Meanwhile, the police are still investigating both the case and the mysterious disappearance of the little baby. |
