Miss Manyara pageant

Miss Manyara pageant scheduled for next month

by Valentine Marc Nkwame

The inaugural "Miss Manyara" beauty pageant for the new Manyara region is set to take place on Thursday, the 17th of July this year.

Organized by Crown Entertainment of Arusha, the event will be held at the CCM hall in Babati township.

According to the organizers, so far there are over 15 aspirants who have taken enrolment forms, eight of whom are from the Arusha municipality.

The deadline for the participants to submit their forms was previously set for Sunday, June 29 but until going to press, this was yet to be confirmed.

This first beauty contest for the new northern zone region is going to be sponsored by Mako Gemstones, Iraqw Mining Co. Limited, Manga Gemstones, Njake Oils, Arusha Duty Free Centre and Darsh Industries (Red Gold) Limited.

Former Miss Kilimanjaro and Miss Northern Zone crown holder, Gaudensia Magessa, has been drafted to train the beauty title aspirants.

However, Magessa is still committed in training participants for Miss Kilimanjaro 2003. Efforts to get her to confirm if she will be moving to Babati were unsuccessful as the beauty trainer is currently in Dar es Salaam.

Meanwhile, more than 10 participants have so far enrolled for the "Miss Arusha 2003" beauty pageant, set for July 5. Among the aspiring contenders are Upendo Erasmus (19), Jawa Mariri (19), Hilda Wilbard (19) and Happiness Peter (18). Others are: Edith Mallya (20), Magreth Swai (20), Miriam John (20), Anna Mambo (21) and Gertrude Haule (22).
