GTEA donates huts for golfersBy Special Correspondent
General Tyre East Africa has inaugurated and handed over to the Gymkhana Golf Section of the Arusha Gymkhana Club 3 huts - a starter’s hut as well as two others to serve as service points. The Arusha Gymkhana golf course, in spite being one of the best golf courses in Tanzania, had for years lacked a starter’s hut which is a standard requirement in a golf course as per international standards. On April 26 General Tyre East Africa sponsored a golf competition at the Gymkhana Club in celebration of the Union Day. The competition attracted golfers from Nairobi, TPC and Moshi. A total of 61 golfers participated in the competition and the winners were H. Sherrif with 71 points net followed by J. Kasegenya with 74 points net from Division A. From Division B, the winners were L. Fortes with 70 points net with J. Sonecha following up closely with 71 points. Amongst the visiting golfers from Muthaiga Golf Club in Nairobi, I. Ilako won with 73 points followed by R. Wamiti with 75 points. Meanwhile, General Tyre East Africa has committed to support the monthly mug golf competitions in Arusha until the end of the current year. Speaking during the prize-awarding ceremony, General Tyre’s Marketing Manager, Ms Kati Kerenge, stressed the need for the golfers to continue supporting General Tyre through buying its tyres and utilizing its services. As part of its service to the Arusha community, General Tyre has sponsored a number of sporting events such as tennis tournaments, motor rallies, and most recently, golf. The company is also supporting some projects dealing with pressing health issues affecting the Tanzanian community. |
