Pallsons smoothly sail to Tusker Cupby Nassib Majamba The Arusha based Mbuguni soccer team, also known as Pallsons FC has topped the main draw selection to play in the forthcoming Tusker Cup mainland league. Pallsons which thrashed various other teams, won by getting 36,195 coupons in the main draw that was held at Msasani club in Dar es Salaam. Due to this, Pallsons FC will for the first time be playing in the Tusker Premier League 2002. Also playing are the Morogoro based, Moro United (35,915 coupons), Vijana FC of Ilala, Dar es Salaam (32,439 coupons) also debating in the league and Young Africans also from Dar, which got 32,020 coupons. Others are Prisons FC from Mbeya region with 29,397 coupons and the incumbent Simba Sports Club of Dar es Salaam. Simba with its 28,115 coupons will be defending its last year’s victory in which the team emerged to be 2001 Tusker Cup champions by defeating their long time foes, the Young Africans. The Tusker Cup leaguer is expected to kick off in mid February at Taifa (National) stadium of Dar es Salaam. As the brain child of the Moshi based Kibo Breweries, the Tusker cup which is being sponsored by Tusker beer, craves to steal the limelight from the similar but much older Safari lager premier league which was initiated by a rival brewing company of Tanzania Breweries Limited (TBL). However, various sports lovers are skeptic on the method of selecting teams through picking coupons saying the teams should first sweat it out in matches. |
