A better place without AMC

With the implementation of the Sustainable Arusha Programme that aims at improving the municipality infrastructure and environment the looks of Arusha are increasingly changing for the better. It is obvious that implementors of the programme have objectives that they want to achieve and are actually working on them. On the other hand, the Arusha Municipal Council (AMC), despite the billions of shillings that they collect every year do not have an enviable reputation for managing the municipality. In the eyes of most Arushans, the AMC is a burden to the tax payers. How comes that Arushans are never informed of how their money is being spent except when one gets the chance to visit areas where AMC officials have personal projects? To me it seems that Arusha would be a better place without AMC. The Sustainable Arusha Programme is all what we need at the time being. No wonder they are considering building their own premises, away from AMC so as not to be contaminated.

The Bank that Listens

Armed robberies are now the order of the day in Tanzania especially in major urban centres such as Dar es Salaam and Arusha. Thugs dare to walk into a bank, during office hours, sporting staff uniform, open strong rooms and walk away smiling and carrying millions of dollars on their shoulders. The recent robbery of the CRDB Bank in Dar es Salaam during which bandits made away with an equivalent of about 1.6 billion shillings is an indication that those mortals brandishing guns at bank entrances are just images. It is, perhaps, interesting that the CRDB bank staff are whole heartedly committed to their motto. When robbers ordered the bank staff to lie down and surrender all the keys and money, they heeded to the order, true to the bank’s slogan - the Bank that Listens.
