I am annoyed by the Arusha Parking SystemDear Editor, I would like to bring to your attention, my anger to the way the Arusha Parking System works. My Name is Shabbir Khan I am Tanzania born but living in London U.K . I recently came to Arusha via Nairobi then travelled to Dar where I departed to London. I would like to bring to your attention that the way Arusha Parking system works its totally wrong. Residents sometimes get harassed by this parking wardens. The charges are also too expensive for local residents whose income is only hand to mouth. Tsh 200/= for an hour for parking from 8 a.m to 6 p.m approximately 10 hours totals Tsh 60,000/= a month which is more than the minimum wage. If you compare with large Cities in East Africa like Nairobi, Parking cost less than Arusha Town. To park in the city of Nairobi within the parking control zone costs only Ksh 70/= equivalent to Tsh 850/= per day .In Arusha it costs Tsh 2000/= per day. In London and Kenya residents living under the parking control zone have been issued with free parking permits by the local authorities. In Arusha residents who live within the Parking control zone are forced to pay parking fees. This is unfair. Also, within the city of London we have so many places where we can park vehicles free of charge, within certain time limits. There is also free parking for disabled people or elderly people, and also free parking priority for parents with young children. What I want to bring to your attention is that Arusha’s the Parking System leaves a lot to be desired.
