EAC brings together media practitioners

The East African Community (EAC) has held a special seminar for the leading media owners and practitioners from the three EAC member states of Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.

The one day media seminar, which took place at the Novotel Mount Meru was meant to brief the media on the latest developments in the community.

Also discussed in the seminar, was the role of the media in the East African regional integration process.

The media seminar officially opened with a keynote address from the EAC Secretary General, Mr. Amanya Mushega.

Deputy EAC Secretary General, Dr. Kipyego Cheluget presented a paper on the overview of EAC. Dr. Cheluget is also in-charge of the Secretariat’s Projects and Programmes.

The counsel to the community, Mr. Wilbert Kaahwa also made a presentation on the treaty for the establishment of the EAC, while a macro economist, Peter Kiguta discussed the EAC development strategy 2001-2005 and the update on the formulation of the protocol on the Community Customs Union.

Ambassador Ali Mchumo, who is the EAC Deputy Secretary General in-charge of Finance and Administration, presented a paper on the role of the media in the EAC Regional integration process and also talked of the EAC Day 2002 programme.
