Arusha National Rally Championship roars off August 10By Arusha Times Correspondent The two-day Arusha National Rally Championship roars off on 10th August, according to Walter Maeda, Chairman of the Arusha Motor Sports Club (AMSC). Maeda says the rally will cover approximately 600 kilometres in the Arusha and Manyara regions. The rally, an annual event, has received sponsorship from the Arusha-based SUNVIC Transporters. "We expect a very tight and fast section. This year's rally is designed to give the rally fans and their families good viewing points from where they can watch their favourite rally drivers tackle the route," Maeda told Arusha Times. The rally, which will start and end at the SUNVIC yard in Arusha, comprises two legs: Leg One starts on 10th August at 8 am and ends at about 4 pm. The Second Leg starts on 11th August at 8 am and ends at 2 pm. Arusha's top rally driver Hussein Jettex, navigated by Akhtar Nayani, is expected to be among those who will feature in the next month's grueling championship. Maeda says a total of 27 cars are expected to take part in the rally. Three cars are expected from Kenya, eight from Dar es Salaam Motor Sports Club, four from Morogoro Motor Sports Club, two from Iringa Motor Sports Club and the host club, Arusha Motors Sports Club, will have 10 cars. The rally route covers Masai Camp - Kikatiti - USA River - Tanganyika Packers - USA River - Masai Camp - USA River - Tanganyika Packers - Simanjiro - Oljoro – and back to SUNVIC. Rally fans are advised to view the cars at such vantage points as Tanganyika Packers, Karangai and Makiba Estate. Route maps will be available from 19th Jul at Golden Rose, SUNVIC Transports and at Jettex Electric shop. Meanwhile, a delegation of the Arusha Motor Sports Club (AMSC) leaves for Nairobi this weekend to witness the Safari Rally, a World Rally Championship event. The delegation is also expected to meet with Kenya Safari Rally Limited officials to discuss the availability of a Kenyan team to officiate at the 10th August Arusha National Rally Championship. |
