Beauty siblings shine in Miss Arusha 2002 pageantby Nassib Majamba
Beauty is not only in the eyes of the beholder, but sometimes runs in the family. Najma Sadry (20) who scooped this year’s regional beauty crown of Miss Arusha 2002 last week, is actually the blood sister of last year’s 1st runner up to Miss Arusha Johari Sadry. Najma who beat the other 12 contestants of the coveted crown was awarded Tsh.400,000 in cash, Tsh.100,000 of which was a personal gift from one Mr. Ziad of UN-ICTR. The Miss Arusha 2002 crown holder was also awarded with complimentary courses at the Arusha Hotel Training Institute (AHTI) worth Tsh.600,000. Her first runner up, Rachel Temu (20) apparently, is also a sister to Miss Tanzania 1999, Hoyce Temu. Rachel got awarded Tsh.200,000 which however got stolen on stage, at least that’s what she claimed in tears. Sophia Urio (19) became the third winner and was presented with Tsh.75,000 plus a course worth Tsh.450,000 at a local college. Viola David (19) took the fourth position winning Tsh.50,000, while Magreth Mmari (19) finished fifth and was given Tsh.30,000. Other contenders who ranged from position six to twelve respectively are Miriam John (18), Shanny Wapalila (20), Christina William (20), Happiness Kessy (20) and Happiness Maina (20). The beauty pageant event was held at the Hotel Seventy Seven last Saturday night and was organized by GSM Promotions under the coordination of former Miss Arusha 1997 and Miss Tanzania, Saida Kessy. |
