Mgagao village in dire need of foodby Rhoda Kangero Villagers of Mgagao village in Mwanga district, Kilimanjaro region are facing an acute shortage of food due to the recent prolonged drought. Speaking to this paper, the local Evangelist of Free Pentecostal Church in Tanzania (FPCT) Yohana Mrutu said the head office of the Church in Tanzania has donated a total of 20 sacks of maize to the villagers but the donation was a far cry from meeting the food needs of the people. Evangelist Mrutu however said the maize adding up to only 2,000 kilogrammes, were not enough for the village consisting of about 500 households. Mrutu explained that only about 240 households stand to benefit from the food donation and would each receive only 10 kilogrammes. The Evangelist said his church in the village, together with the local authorities would write a joint letter to the FPCT headquarters in Dar es Salaam, requesting for additional supplies of food aid. The second consignment if given, will be distributed to the remaining 260 families in the village while further efforts are being made to donate more food in other surrounding areas and villages. |
