Has the Municipal Council considered these ‘parking issues’Dear Editor, I find the report in Arusha Times of forthcoming parking charges in Arusha hilarious and a number of questions spring to mind. We hate Traffic Wardens in the U.K. and we often say to rude people, 'If you don't like your job, why not become a traffic warden', but in fairness they behave professionally and do their job in a courteous way. They do not handle cash. Parking offenders have tickets (placed in waterproof envelopes for rainy weather!) placed on their windscreens and the fee of 30,000Tsh/‑ is to be paid within 14 days or go to Court where the fine will be greater plus costs How sure is Arusha that 70 thugs are not being let loose in the town? Will there be a 'collector' every 10 yards to pounce on the motorist? Does the hour begin when the fee is paid? Will receipts be issued? Will change be given if the motorist doesn't have the right change? Does the municipal authority realize that this will encourage shoppers to patronize 'out‑of‑town' facilities? In the U.K. 'out‑of‑town' supermarkets and even larger shopping 'malls' proliferate and there, parking is free and easy and the choice of goods to be bought is wide and varied. Town centre shopping is becoming a thing of the past in the UK and as a consequence shops there are going out of business. Successful businesses depend on traffic flow and free parking. Arusha, I think you are making a big mistake! Be warned! Yours faithfully,
