Kijenge resident accused of defiling girlby Daniel Sabuni A resident of Kijenge area, in Arusha municipality, Ayoub Omari (42) has appeared before the Arusha District Court’s Principal Magistrate, Felista Mushi, to answer charges of sexually defiling a six year old girl. The accused is being prosecuted under the Sexual Offences Special Provision Act Number 4 of 1998 (Rape C/S 130) Section 2 of the Penal. Inspector Juma Mwango, the prosecutor in charge of the case said the accused had committed the offence in Kijenge area on Valentine’s Day (14th of February) this year. The charges state that, the accused summoned his victim at about 12.45 pm and since the six year old kid knew nothing of his advances, she followed him and became his victim. The accused however, denied the charges but since his victim is a minor who could have sustained serious injuries, the court decided that he should be kept under custody, pending further investigations. Meanwhile, further examinations are being carried on to determine to what extent was the child affected. The accused is expected to appear in court again on the 4th of March 2002 when his case is scheduled for another mention. |
